Gestational Carrier: What to Expect When You Are Carrying For Someone Else

It’s hard to believe that there are people selfless enough to help others physically bring babies into this world. A gestational carrier is one of them.

A gestational carrier is a woman who carries and delivers a baby for someone else. Unlike traditional surrogacy, the carrier is not genetically related to the child. This means the carrier’s role is to nurture and protect the pregnancy, but she is not the biological mother.

Be a Gestational Carrier

Gestational carriers are typically women between 21 and 40 years old who:

  1. Have had at least one healthy pregnancy and delivery
  2. Are in good physical and emotional health
  3. Have strong support systems (family, friends, or partners)
  4. Do not smoke or use drugs
  5. Are ready for the time commitment and responsibility involved

Key Considerations in Gestational Surrogacy

  1. First, we will complete the interview and screening rounds. Once it is done, we’ll ensure that gestational surrogates and intended parents are mutually compatible.
  2. Both will support each other throughout the surrogacy process.
  3. Being a Gestational Surrogate involves a series of medical steps, including hormone treatments, embryo transfer, and regular check-ups.
  4. A surrogate mother is entitled to compensation. Intended parents and the surrogate both have to make a contract before any medical process begins. Based on this agreement, the amount of compensation is decided.
  5. Review the legal contract, as it is a crucial step in the gestational surrogacy journey.
  6. You may ask questions and have representation by an independent lawyer of your choosing.
  7. As your due date approaches, we will assist you in getting pre-admitted to the hospital. After delivery, we complete all paperwork and finalize the process.
